A Life Well Lived: The Legacy of Opanyin Felix Kofi Mensah
"I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith." — 2 Timothy 4:7
Opanyin Felix Kofi Mensah, born Kofi Adam, came into this world on November 23, 1950, in Agona Nantifa, to Kwabena Okuntu and Abena Amoah, both of blessed memory. He was the last of three brothers and four sisters. Though born into a Muslim family, he later embraced the Christian faith, taking on the name Felix Mensah—a testament to his journey of spiritual transformation and devotion to God.
His early years of education began in Agona Asafo, but following the passing of his father, he moved to Gomoa Fete under the care of his elder brother, Opanyin Kwaku Botwe, and his uncle, Kofi Esaah (Kojirko). It was here that he completed middle school before returning to Agona Nantifa.
Opanyin Mensah was a hardworking and resourceful man. He engaged in farming—both crop cultivation and fish farming—skills he acquired during his time with his uncle. His industrious spirit led him beyond his hometown, working first at Akosombo Textiles Limited and later at a block factory in Akwatia. Eventually, he returned home to serve as a supervisor (foreman) at N’adom Block Factory, where he worked diligently until his retirement three years ago. He was also an active member and leader in the N’adom Gospel Band, using his God-given voice to glorify the Lord.
Opanyin Mensah was a man of deep love and commitment. He married Madam Elizabeth Sesa from Gomoa Fete, and together they were blessed with children. After the passing of his beloved wife, he found love again in Mrs. Comfort Mensah, whom he married in 1995. Their union was one of joy, strength, and unwavering companionship, lasting 29 beautiful years.
Opanyin Mensah lived a life that exemplified integrity, kindness, and service. He was a pillar in his family and community, serving as the Aboradze Ebusuapanyin (clan head) in Agona Nantifa, as well as taking on other traditional roles in Ajumako Mando. His leadership was marked by unity, fairness, and generosity—qualities that endeared him to many. His impact was so profound that numerous family members named their children after him, honoring his legacy of love and wisdom.
In his faith walk, Opanyin Mensah was a devoted servant of God. He faithfully served as a deacon and secretary for the Love Assemblies of God Church in Agona Nantifa, where he played a significant role in nurturing and strengthening the church. His dedication to the house of God was evident in his unwavering service and commitment to the growth of the congregation. "For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve." — Mark 10:45
Above all, Opanyin Mensah was a family man in every sense of the word. He loved deeply, guided patiently, and provided unwavering support to his wife, children, and many others who saw him as a father figure. Over 20 children had the privilege of calling him their direct father, while countless others felt the warmth of his fatherly embrace.
On the 6th of December 2024, Opanyin Felix Kofi Mensah peacefully departed this life at the Agona Swedru Municipal Hospital after a short illness. Though he has left this earthly realm, his legacy of love, faith, and service lives on in the hearts of all who knew him.
"Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of His saints." — Psalm 116:15
May his soul rest in perfect peace.
Opanyin Felix Kofi Mensah was a man of faith, integrity, and love, who lived a life devoted to God, family, and community. A hardworking and humble man, he excelled in farming, block manufacturing, and leadership, always ensuring the well-being of those around him. As a husband, father, and grandfather, he was not just a provider but a true friend—always present, encouraging, and blessing his family with wisdom and care. He served his community as a respected clan head, promoting unity and fairness, and played a vital role in his church as a dedicated deacon and secretary.
