Born: 2/7/1958 | Passed: 2/8/2024

Biography

“For there is a hope for a tree, when it is cut down, that it will sprout again, and its shoots will not fail. Though its roots grow old in the ground and its stumps dies in the dry soil, at the scent of water it will flourish and put forth springs like a plant. (Job 14:7).

Rev. Michael Kwesi Awi was born at Kute-Buem on the 27th July, 1958 to the late Mr. Cosmos Kwame Awi from Kute-Buem (deceased) and Madam Elizabeth Ama Danso of Santrokofi Benua still alive in the Volta Region now Oti in the Republic of Ghana.

He was the third born to the mother and the fifth born to the father. His father died at his tender aged of 5years. Life became unbearable and his mother returned to her paternal home.

Rev. Awi had his elementary education at Kute Roman Catholic Primary and Middle schools from 1965 – 1975 where he obtained a Middle School Leaving Certificate (MSLC) in 1975. He moved to Jasikan and stayed with his sister Victoria Awi now the Queen Mother of Kute-Buem and work with Akyeah Construction Company for a while after he completed the school. He did not allow his environment to stifle him but rather stimulated his environment with ambition and drive. Realizing that, the menial job could not sustain his life, he decided to learn a trade. He went into an apprenticeship in electrical with Mr. Aku from Lolobi-Ashiambi who worked with the electricity company of Ghana (E.C.G) at Hohoe in 1982.

MINISTRY

Whiles at Hohoe as an apprentice, he met the late Rev. Francis Okomfo Ayitrosi, then an Agric teacher at St. Francis Demonstration JSS who got him converted. His conversion was very dramatic and his zeal for the things in the house of God was unquestionable. The transformation was drastically and tangible. He purposed in his heart and responded to the call and thereby desired to become a minister of the gospel in Assemblies of God. This led him to Rev. Dr Ernest Narh Adulai who upon seeing the call of God in his life, recommended him to Rev Bill Shaw an American Assemblies of God Missionary to Volta Region, who assisted him to open an Assemblies of God Church at his village Kute-Buem in 1990. Brother Anthony Owusu from Baglo Odumasi now the Head Pastor of the local church in Kute was his assistant.

From there, he went to Lay-workers course for two weeks at Southern Ghana Bible College and became the leader of the church at Kute from February, 1991 – 1993. He then enrolled at Southern Ghana Bible College, now Assemblies of God Theology Serminary (AGTS) where he obtained Diploma in Theology. Rev. Michael Kwasi Awi, after he obtained his Diploma in Theology was posted to Assemblies of God, Kpassa in Nkwanta North from 1996 to 1999, then to Dabala 1999-2001. Rev. Michael Kwesi Awi was involved in a motor accident with the wife on Thursday, 22nd August, 2024 and was referred from Krachi Government Hospital to Volta Regional Teaching Hospital that fateful day. He was full of life on Saturday, 24th August, 2024 but unfortunately passed on later the same day which happen to be about a month after his 66th Birthday.

He was self-discipline, affable, calm, loving and very friendly to all and sundry to whoever approached him both Christians and non-Christians. He was a full gospel minister and teacher in the word of God in Assemblies of God for 34years. He was a mentor, a counselor, a prayer warrior, church planter as well as tutor who rightly divide the word of truth. He did all this selflessly to the glory of God till his demised. No wonder, Isaiah 61 was one of his favourite chapters in the Bible. I would like to read only the verse 1-3.

The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me; because the LORD hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound. To proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD, and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all that mourn. To appoint unto them that mourn in Zion, to give unto them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the LORD, that he might be glorified. Amen (Isa.61:1-3 ) KJV

Words of Honor from those that were impaced by the loss

Mrs Alice Ama Attafoe – Awi

Song – Ancient Word by Lynn Deshazo Holy words long preserved For our walk in this world, They resound with God’s own heart Oh, let the Ancient words impart. Ancient words ever true Ancient words ever true Changing me, and changing you. We have come with open hearts Oh let the ancient words impart If only for this life we have hope in Christ, we are of all people most to be pitied. But Christ has indeed been raised from the dead, the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep. 1 Corinthians 15:19 – 20 My heart is heavy with grief, but my spirit is filled with joy and gratitude as I reflect on the life and legacy of my beloved husband. I had the opportunity and rare privilege of being the wife and partner of the wonderful, loving, kind, selfless and a complete gentleman. I am beyond grateful for being at my side through our marital journey and I wish to remember you for your Unwavering faith, Selfless Love, Leadership, Vision and Family values. Your Unwavering Faith Daddy, you were a shining example of faith and trust in God's sovereignty. Your unwavering commitment to His word has greatly inspired me in deepening my own relationship with Christ. You believe the best in every circumstances. You always say “everything will be fine because God is with us”. You have indeed fought a good fight and kept the faith. Your Selfless Love Daddy, your love for me, our family, the church and our community was a beacon of hope and light. Your selfless service, kindness, and compassion touched countless lives and left an indelible mark on our world. You always hide your challenges and problems as you go out of your way in helping and supporting other people who have one problem or the other. You love people genuinely and pray for their wellbeing even when some do not see any good in all you do and your ministry style. I love the way you wake up at night and pour out your heart to God for many people on your prayer list. You indeed hold people dear in your heart. Daddy, your love humanity is worthy of emulation. Your Leadership and Vision Daddy, as a leader, you showed me the importance of integrity, humility, and courage. Your vision for the church and community inspired me to join you in serving and giving back to others. You want every one around you to thrive and grow in all they do. You love to give people opportunity to give their best and do ministry not having any regret. Your Family Values Daddy, at home, you taught me the value of family, love, and unity. You demonstrated what it means to prioritize relationships and nurture them. I can confidently say your values is what is keeping the family together even after your demise. You shoulder the responsibility of a husband with joy and you treasure peace and unity of the family over any other thing. “If it is possible, as much as it is up to you, be at peace with all” – Romans 12:18. You exhort us to prioritize peace in all things. You are indeed a man of humility and peace. You have open our home to many people. This is evident in the number of people you have supported and nurtured through your home over the years. You are generous and a blessing to people from all walk of live. Thank you for your care daddy. You are our hero. Your life Lives On Though you're no longer with me physically, your legacy lives on through: • The countless lives you touched through ministry • The churches and communities you served • The family you loved and nurtured • The lessons you taught and the memories we shared Daddy, we will Miss You We'll miss your warm smile, your infectious laugh, and your wise counsel. But we take comfort in knowing you are now in the presence of our Heavenly Father. We will carry your memory with us and it gladdens out heart to know that so much of you is alive in friends, sons, daughters and family. Thank you for being an extraordinary husband, mentor, and friend. I will continue to honor your legacy and strive to make you proud.
